Dragone
Il Dragone (coordinate: 15h ; + 75°) è una costellazione dell’emisfero settentrionale. E’ riconosciuta tra le 88 costellazioni moderne, individuata già da Tolomeo tra le sue 48.
Il Dragone è una delle costellazioni più grandi della volta celeste, ed è circumpolare se osservata da latitudini comprese tra il Polo Nord e la fascia temperata dell’emisfero boreale (ad esempio dal bacino del Mediterraneo). Data la sua grande estensione e la sua forma sinuosa, la coda del dragone si snoda tra l’Orsa Maggiore e l’Orsa Minore, circondando quest’ultima su tre lati.

Il Dragone è una figura mitologica, posta alla guardia del Giardino delle Esperidi, regalo nuziale di Zeus ed Era da parte della Terra. All’interno del giardino si trovava un albero dalle mele d’oro, le quali non dovevano mai essere colte. L’unico eroe che riuscì nell’impresa fu Ercole, che uccise il drago e colse i frutti con l’inganno, per completare una delle sue dodici fatiche. La dea Era allora, affinché il Dragone non fosse mai dimenticato, lo pose in cielo come una costellazione.
